Dexter Navy
Filmmaker, Photographer

Kanye West’s 2007 music video for “Flashing Lights” gave Dexter Navy the filmmaking bug. Fast-forward to 2016, and the 25-year-old filmmaker has already scooped a VMA and Grammy nomination for A$AP Rocky’s “L$D”. “The idea for one of my videos with Rocky just came from chilling with him one day,” he told us last year. “Within a week we were flying out to make it happen.”
Navy’s career is defined by fast-paced creativity, an approach that’s already seen him work with Travi$ Scott, Drake and M.I.A. The hard-working London native believes that “doing your own thing” is the key to victory, a motto fully internalised after being denied admission into uni. For filmmakers looking to follow in his footsteps, Navy advises one thing: “Don’t let any amount of failure guide your future... Guide your future until you’re content.”
Last year, Navy took his camera to Morocco for Dazed x adidas Originals’ DZDNMD Diaries, journeying across the country’s rich terrain and photographing the sights that inspired him. We handpicked a few of our favourite snaps and videos from his colourful trip.
