“XE2” surprised everyone when it topped FACT magazine’s tracks of the year poll at the end of 2013, not least its 23-year-old creator. The London producer says he’s had “countless” girls tell him the track makes them cry, and he even spotted one guy at a Dublin show in a blubbering heap on the dancefloor (“He looked like a mother who had just lost her child.”) Next up for the R&B/grime producer, who claims to have pictures of himself drunk with Björk on his phone, is an upcoming collab with a “great” artist. Coincidence? We’ll have to wait and see... But for now, check out his emotive splicing of Ariana Grande's “The Way” on new track “Ari Spn”, exclusive to Dazed.

Who would you most like to produce a track for?

MssingNo: T-Pain or Sampha – they both have those rough and adenoidal voices, and I’ve yet to work with a male vocalist.

How would you sum up what you do in a sentence?

MssingNo: A young Birdman, helping curate people’s musical profiles, ghost/co-producing peoples work, while ignoring my own life goals.

What’s your favourite movie of 2014?

MssingNo: The Grand Budapest Hotel and Gone Girl.

What’s the most exciting thing about the music industry today?

MssingNo: The fact that anybody can have a go. There’s so much new stuff emerging and it’s a wonderful feeling when you find something new that you love. Finding new amazing music is like being your own iTunes’ A&R.

What new skill did you learn this year?

MssingNo: How to use Twitter. How to ignore emails politely. How to play better chess. How to wheelie a motorbike.

Who’s an unsung cultural hero that you discovered this year?

MssingNo: TĀLĀ and Clara La San. Amazing artists. Maybe not so unsung but definitely two people to watch out for.

Who should have been at number one on the Dazed 100?

MssingNo: Pancasila Youth (Tommy Snugs and C Noon). Watch out for these guys.
