Deep-fried donkeys and designer poo: Steve Lacy’s greatest IG shitposts

Our Dazed cover star is not only a wildly talented musician; he’s also a top-tier memester. Here’s a rundown of the best memes he’s shared on Instagram

You know the expression, ‘dance like nobody’s watching’? That’s how Dazed cover star Steve Lacy uses Instagram. Or more accurately, he knows everyone is watching, he just doesn’t care.

Lacy is known not only as a gifted musician but also as an avid shitposter on social media. It’s almost surprising that the 27-year-old uses Instagram the way he does because, as our US editor Laura Pitcher notes, “the photo-sharing app has become akin to LinkedIn.” She continues: “There are multiple professional announcements from people you don’t know, and an abundance of pristine, almost professionally curated photos and videos.” What was once an app of spontaneity, fun and creativity has become dull, competitive and lifeless. That is, until you stumble across accounts like Lacy’s, where he shares multiple selfies from different angles, memes, oversaturated shots of himself and his friends – and sometimes, pictures of poop (not his own!).

What prompted him to start posting like this? “I was in a break-up psychosis,” he tells Dazed in his Between Takes video. “I made up ‘break-up psychosis’, but I think it’s a real thing. When people break up, they just need something to believe in.” For Lacy, that thing he believed in was having fun on Instagram. “After my break-up, I was on this vibe…I thought to myself, ‘Why am I thinking about this shit? Who gives a fuck. It reminded me why I liked Instagram in the first place.”

Lacy’s Instagram serves as a reminder to be a silly goose every once in a while – or all the time, if you fancy it. Below is a selection of our favourite memes from his feed.
