Watch: Charli xcx’s long-awaited ‘party 4 u’ video

The sleeper hit receives a much-anticipated music video five years after its initial release

Charli xcx has just unveiled a music video for “party 4 u” five years after its initial release. Arriving as the ninth track on her 2020 album How I’m Feeling Now, “party 4 u” became somewhat of a sleeper hit, going viral in February of this year after a TikTok trend involving fans singing the accelerated second verse pushed the track back into charts around the world.

“it’s p crazy that this song is suddenly getting love in this kinda way,” Charli wrote on X/Twitter in the wake of the track’s sudden resurgence. “i know this song means so much to so many angels. she’s a cutie <3”

“party 4 u” has now received the full single treatment – the video sees the star stumble through a barren rural environment and gradually remove her clothes and belongings, in an apparent nod to the track’s lyrics which reference Charli throwing a party for someone who doesn’t show up. With the Coach Tabby bag making an appearance, the video culminates with the artist setting fire to a billboard bearing her image.

This video arrives in the wake of Charli’s viral Brat album in 2024, which has continued to trickle into 2025. “I’m interested in the tension of staying too long,” the pioneering hyperpop star wrote on Instagram earlier this month, while fans began to notice that the Brat album cover has begun to rust and decay on all streaming platforms.

This new video appears to continue Charli’s exploration of overstaying one’s welcome, with the song’s themes of a night unfulfilled, as well as its fiery climax, seeming to reference Charli coming to terms with the comedown after Brat’s record-shattering run.
