Watch Stormzy’s cameo-packed video for ‘Mel Made Me Do It’

Starring everyone from Louis Theroux to Usain Bolt, Little Simz and Malorie Blackman

From running his own book imprint #Merky Books to launching his own scholarship programme, earning an honourary degree at Exeter uni and making his Met Gala debut, the last few years have seen Stormzy establish himself as a British cultural titan. Now, the MC has returned with a triumphant single “Mel Made Me Do It“, his first solo release in nearly three years. The seven-minute epic features guest verses from Stylo G and a monologue by Wretch 32 (narrated by actress Michaela Coel).

The track comes accompanied by an 11-minute music video directed by KLVDR, which brings together multiple storylines and over 35 (!) cameos, including the likes of Dave, Headie One, Little Simz, Louie Theroux, Malorie Blackman and Usain Bolt.

Nothing is confirmed, but it’s safe to assume that “Mel Made Me Do It“ will appear on Stormzy’s upcoming third album, which is expected to be released before the end of the year. During his recent UK tour, the rapper shared a video of himself working on the album in a studio, with a message flashing on screen: “Album 3. Coming 2022.”

His 2019 album Heavy Is the Head saw Stormzy ruminate on the perils of critical acclaim. But, if “Mel Made Me Do It“ is anything to go by, it appears that the MC is finally comfortable being on top. “I’ve been the GOAT for so long, I guess it’s not exciting when I win,” he asserts in the track’s opening. So, it’s mission accomplished.
