Nearly two years after its release, Harry Styles’ second album Fine Line is still receiving praise. On Tuesday (August 10) the musician bagged three nominations for the prestigious Ivor Novello awards.
The awards – named after the late composer and filmmaker, Ivor Novello – celebrate songwriters and screen composers across the UK and Ireland. Former legendary winners include Lily Allen for her song “The Fear”, Adele for “Rolling in the Deep”, The 1975 for “Love It If We Made It”, Victoria Beckham for The Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” and David Bowie for “Space Oddity” and for his Outstanding Contribution to British Music.
Now – after receiving a nomination for Songwriter of the Year with his collaborator Kid Harpoon and two more nominations in the PRS for Music Most Performed Work category for “Watermelon Sugar” and “Adore You” – Harry Styles could soon be joining the winners.
Other nominated artists in the songwriting category include soul musician Celeste and rapper AJ Tracey. Meanwhile, Arlo Parks, Marina, and Headie One were nominated for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, and Pa Salieu’s Take Them To Coventry bagged a nomination for Best Album.
Earlier this year, Styles won his first Grammy for Best Pop Performance for “Watermelon Sugar” while showing off a couple kitschy feather boas on the red carpet and on-stage. He also took home a Brit Award in the Best Song category for the single.
Music aside, Harry Styles has spent the past year starring as 1950’s housewife Florence Pugh’s husband in the upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling (directed by his rumoured girlfriend, Olivia Wilde). The musician has also been filming the queer romance-drama My Policeman, where he’ll star as a cop looking back on life with male lover. Lots to look forward to.
The 66th Ivor Novello awards will take place in London on September 21.
