Following recent reports that Britney Spears had requested her father be removed as her conservator, news comes that her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, is now in charge of her trust.
First reported by The Blast on Tuesday, Jamie Lynn has been appointed the trustee of Spears’ ‘SJB Revocable Trust’, which the singer set up in 2004 to protect her assets and her childrens’ financial future. According to a report obtained by the publication, Jamie Lynn will be responsible for ensuring her sister’s assets, both financial and physical, are passed on to her children if she passes away.
Spears’ father Jamie had been the sole conservator of both her person and her assets since 2008, after she was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for a week. Initially meant to end a year later, in 2009, the conservatorship is still in place over 12 years on, with Spears’ fans calling it out as a violation of her human rights and abuse of power.
A petition by the #FreeBritney movement alleges that “her father doesn’t allow her to drive, all of her calls are monitored, and she’s not allowed to vote, hang with anyone or spend her money without permission. And if she breaks a ‘rule’ he threatens to have her kids taken away”. Jamie Spears has repeatedly dismissed the allegations as ‘conspiracy theories’.
Britney is yet to comment publicly on the appointment.
