Amy Winehouse has been honoured on Camden’s Music Walk of Fame today (March 6) with a stone bearing her name, unveiled at a ceremony attended by fans, friends, and family of the late musician.
Camden was Winehouse’s home and main stomping ground, and fans regularly pay their respects outside her former house on Camden Road, which makes the location of the plaque fitting.
In a speech, Winehouse’s father, Mitch, who attended the ceremony alongside the singer’s mother, Janis, said: “This is a wonderful honour to be bestowed on our darling girl. It’s another reminder that she’s no longer with us physically, but she’s certainly with us spiritually.”
He continued: “Camden Town was Amy’s life. She lived here and she loved it here.”
He went onto recall the 2008 Grammys, where the singer picked up five awards. On the same night, Winehouse received the news that Camden music venue the Stables was burning down. “Amy’s first thought was not about her five Grammys,” he said, “but about her beloved Camden.”
Fans chanted the iconic musician’s name as the stone was laid.
Once completed, the ‘Walk’, which first opened in 2019, will feature 400 stones commemorating musicians. Winehouse is the third act to be honoured at the site, following The Who last year, and Madness on Monday (March 2), while Soul II Soul are set to be inducted on Friday (March 6).
Since her death in 2011, Winehouse's family has set up a foundation in her name, which helps young people with problems like addiction. Her father has previously shared that a film and broadway show is in the works, that celebrates her music, life, and legacy.
