The sisters are back with another Paul Thomas Anderson-directed video

HAIM have dropped their second single of 2019, “Now I’m In It”, accompanied by a video directed by long-time collaborator Paul Thomas Anderson.

Writing on Instagram, the sisters explained that the track is about depression. “For my sisters and I, there have been times in our lives where we have felt like we are stuck in a dark hole. This track speaks to that emotion.”

The video for “Now I’m In It” opens with Danielle Haim drinking in a dark bar before she runs through the bright daylight outside to her job at a cafe. After picking her up off the ground when she falls, her sisters take her through a carwash, help her get dressed, and head out into the night.

“The track is chaotic,” HAIM wrote, “like my mind when I’m spiralling. Every day my sisters and I feel so fucking lucky that we get to do this for a living!!! It seemed like stopping and dealing with these emotions would be letting everyone down.”

The post continued: “But every time I’ve been depressed, it takes me accepting that I need help, to start to get out of it. We all know it’s important to talk about this stuff. This one poured out of us.”

“Take care of yourself,”  the band concluded. “Be nice to yourself. Thank the ones around you that help you everyday. Hope this helps anyone who is in it right now.”

The track follows their August single “Summer Girl” – their first release since 2017’s Something To Tell You, which was written by Danielle after finding out her partner had been diagnosed with cancer. “Whenever I would come home in between shows I wanted to be his sunshine,” Danielle explained at the time, “his summer when he was feeling dark.”

There’s no news on when we can expect an album yet, but HAIM recently revealed on Twitter that they are releasing new music as they work on it.
