Oneohtrix Point Never will soundtrack the Safdie Brothers’ latest film, Uncut Gems, a crime thriller, starring Adam Sandler and The Weeknd.
The film, which is executive produced by no-one other than Goodfellas and Taxi Driver director, Martin Scorsese, is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, and follows a New York jeweller, Howard Ratner (played by Sandler) who, according to A24’s official bio, “must perform a precarious high-wire act, balancing business, family, and encroaching adversaries on all sides, in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win”.
Although not much else has been revealed regarding the film’s plot, joining Sandler and The Weeknd is a diverse cast of Idina Menzel, Judd Hirsch, Julia Fox, Lakeith Stanfield and former basketball star Kevin Garnett.
Oneohtrix Point Never, real name Daniel Lopatin, previously scored Josh and Benny Safdie’s 2017 film Good Time, featuring R-Patz as street hustler on the run across New York as he attempts to rescue his brother from jail. The Brooklyn-based composer’s track “The Pure and the Damned” (featuring Iggy Pop) was awarded the Soundtrack Award at the Cannes Film Festival. He also contributed to the score for Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring with Brian Reitzell, and Ariel Kleiman’s Partisan and Rick Alverson’s The Mountain.
