This weekend, we should finally learn what that mysterious Donald Glover/Rihanna project is all about. When Glover headlines Coachella as Childish Gambino, he’ll also premiere the film Guava Island. Little is known about the project, other than the fact that Rihanna will be in it, as well as Letitia Wright and Nonso Anozie, that Glover’s frequent collaborator Hiro Murai will direct it, and that it was filmed in Cuba.
If you’re not at Coachella, you will still be able to watch the film, as YouTube are livestreaming the festival over three separate channels. The stream begins at 4pm PT on April 12 and ends April 14, before picking up again for Coachella’s second weekend from April 19-21.
News of Guava Island broke last year, with Glover premiering a trailer for the film at his Pharos Festival in New Zealand, which showed the performer playing guitar, dancing, and being held hostage. Some reports have suggested the project might be an entire visual album to accompany a new Childish Gambino LP. In recent days, teasers for the film have been popping up on Spotify.
