Grimes shares new demo ‘Pretty Dark’

We might have to wait a bit longer for her new album, but Grimes will be sharing demos over the next few months to tide us over

You might have to wait a tiny bit longer for Grimes’s much-anticipated, but much-delayed fifth album. The Canadian artist wrote on Twitter yesterday that it’s “2 ambitious/taking too long” to finish – but for now, at least, there is new music for fans to hear. As she explained, she’s going to be uploading demos to YouTube in the build-up to the album’s release, starting with the song “Pretty Dark”.

Grimes said on Twitter that “Pretty Dark” is a “sad fairy song” from her “weird AR musical”. The song and video were made in her bedroom yesterday, “so it’s rough”.

“Gna start throwing demos up on yt cuz album taking too long,” she added on Instagram. The song is “not a Grimes single.. just a fun vibe I made yesterday”. She added that she’s “Gna start making music under diff names when doesn’t rly fit,” and that “this project is called Dark... I’ll explain more later.”

Grimes’s last official single was last year’s “We Appreciate Power”. Her new album is currently untitled.

Listen to “Pretty Dark” below.
