Watch Kelsey Lu’s visually spectacular ‘Due West’ video

The classically trained cellist and Solange protégé is back with a stunning single produced by Rodaidh Mcdonald and, unexpectedly, Skrillex

Kelsey Lu has released a stunning video for her new song, “Due West”.

In the video, directed by Cara Stricker and Mindy Le Brock, an impeccably styled Kelsey Lu dances alone in a cane field, then a quiet river, and in an underground car park. The song was produced by Rodaidh McDonald, with additional work by an exceptionally delicate Skrillex.

In a press release, Kelsey Lu says that the song “is a continuation of the evolution of self. A continuous questioning of the romanticism of ‘home’ and what we leave behind in order to gain hope in what’s ahead.”

“Due West” follows the North Carolina-raised, LA-based singer and classically trained cellist’s contributions to albums by the likes of Blood Orange, Oneohtrix Point Never, Kelela, and Solange. Her last solo EP, 2016’s Church, was recorded in a single take in a church in Brooklyn, although she released a new song, “Shades of Blue”, earlier this year. Her next major release is due in 2019.
