Solange’s new album is finished, and due later this year

We’re ready

Solange’s new album is ready. In a new interview with the New York Times, the singer revealed that the follow-up to A Seat at the Table, one of 2016’s most enduring records, is finished and will be released in the autumn. As the Times write, the release is “imminent this fall, probably sometime soon”.

In the interview, Solange explains that there is a “lot of jazz at the core” of the album’s songwriting, but with the drums and bass of hip hop and electronic music, “because I want it to bang and make your trunk rattle”. It will be “warm, fluid, and more sensual” than her last record.

A release date for the album is not yet confirmed, but given she dropped A Seat at the Table with just a few days notice, it’s unlikely that this will follow a conventional release timetable  (the Times add that the album will “likely arrive into the world fully formed at some mysterious and unexpected moment”).

Read Dazed’s cover story with Solange, where she wrote a personal essay about recording new music in Jamaica, and revisit A Seat at the Table below.
