Relive the 90s
Back in the 1992, David Lynch and composer Angelo Badalamenti, who has scored a number of Lynch’s projects including Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, collaborated together on an experimental jazz project called Thought Gang that was never released.
You might already be familiar with some of two of the tracks tracks from the lost album, as they actually appeared on the soundtrack for Lynch’s 1992 film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. In the movie, “A Real Indication” was playing in the background when Laura Palmer discovers her diary with ripped out pages. While David Lynch repeats the sentence, the black dog runs at night at several intervals and “The Black Dog Runs at Night” forms part of the soundtrack. In last year’s season of the TV show, “Frank 2000”, “Logic and Common Sense”, and “Summer Night Noise” were also played.
Released 26 years later after its inception, the 12-track album will also feature a multitude of musicians such as the bass player Reggie Hamilton. If you can't wait until the release, which is set to be November 2, you can immerse yourself in the Lynch-Badalamenti soundscape by listening to a track released yesterday by the label Sacred Bones, “Woodcutters From Fiery Ships”.
The song transports us back to the universe built by Badalamenti and Lynch with a distorted monologue performed by the Italian composer on top of a drum solo.
