The beef continues between Pusha T and Drake – Pusha has released a ferocious, skin-prickling new diss track titled “The Story of Adidon”. The cover image for the tune features a young Drake in blackface, a reportedly real image.
This follows Drake’s own “Duppy Freestyle”, which attempted to slight Pusha for his drug-dealing past, his rap career, and relationship with Kanye West. Drizzy’s was also a clapback at Pusha’s “Infrared”, which called out the rapper for ghostwriting.
On “The Story of Adidon” – which remixes “The Story of O.J” by Jay-Z – Pusha pulls no punches, claiming that Drake has a secret child. Rumours have circulated for the last year surrounding a supposed baby.
“Sophie knows better, ask your baby mother, cleaned her up for IG but the stench is on her,” Pusha raps, naming the alleged mother of his kid. “You are hiding a child. Love that baby, respect that girl, forget she’s a porn star, let her be your world.”
Pusha takes shots at his family, the rumours he has a team of ghost writers, and that Drake was “always afraid he wasn’t black enough”.
The release of the freestyle comes with a shocking image of Drake in blackface. “Please stop referring to this picture as “artwork”…I’m not an internet baby, I don’t edit images…this is a REAL picture…these are his truths, see for yourself,” Pusha tweeted.
The picture was originally taken by photographer David Leyes, whose website captioned the photo as “Drake Us And Them”. It’s possibly something to do with the short film the Canadian rapper starred in back in 2008.
Amid this explosive rap beef that has the internet rapt are some memes and frenzied reactions, obviously.
Pusha T released his Kanye-produced album DAYTONA last week – a release that has garnered acclaim as well as criticism, anger centred particularly on its use of artwork. The cover image for the album is a photograph of the late Whitney Houston’s personal bathroom, strewn with drugs and equipment. Her family estate released a statement voicing their disgust.
The tension between Pusha and Drake goes back to around 2006, when Pusha’s rap group Clipse sparked a fight with Lil Wayne (the Young Money boss Drake has long been loyal too). Later, the beef went full blown in the first indirect Drizzy diss track “Don’t Fuck With Me”, in 2011.
