David Bowie has died

The music and style icon had been secretly battling cancer for 18 months

In a tragic and unexpected turn of events, David Bowie has died following a secret 18-month battle with cancer.

According to statements posted across his social media accounts, the music and style icon passed away last night at the age of 69. He was apparently “surrounded by his family”.

“January 10 2016 – David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer,” the full statement read. “While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”

The news has been confirmed by his publicist, and comes just two days after he released his 25th album (Blackstar). Further details are yet to be issued.
