Originally designed by David Lynch and named after the fictional club in Mulholland Drive, Silencio has been a much sought-after – and strictly confidential – part of Paris nightlife for more than a decade. In that time, it’s brought together such cultural icons as Prince, Lana Del Rey, Bret Easton Ellis, and Virgil Abloh, with additional locations opening in Ibiza and the French capital’s left bank. Now, though, a new era has arrived, seeing Silencio touch down in New York.
Located in Hell’s Kitchen, a stone’s throw from NYC’s Times Square, the new iteration of Silencio draws on the area’s unique and eclectic energy, defined by cutting-edge creatives and the echoes of legendary pillars of nightlife like Studio 54. Of course, this legacy is a lot for any new club to live up to, but luckily acclaimed designer and Crosby Studios founder Harry Nuriev was at the helm to make sure it did just that.
Taking inspiration from Silencio’s roots, Nuriev – whose previous collaborators include Balenciaga and Nike – drenched the New York space in red neon, resulting in a modern, minimalist update on Lynchian aesthetics. At the bar, meanwhile, cocktails flow courtesy of the award-winning mixologist Remy Savage, whose drinks are already a staple of Paris and Ibiza.
Silencio also promises cutting-edge cultural programming, with musical performances and DJ sets running from 11pm until closing, featuring a line-up of both local and international musicians. Add to that a wealth of multidisciplinary projects – spanning performances, talks, screenings, exhibitions, dinners, private tours, and more – and the venue looks poised to become a new outpost for the city’s creative vanguard. That’s if you’re lucky enough to get in. So far it has hosted the likes of: Swizz Beats, Rohan and YG Marley, Dilone, Joan Smalls, Paola Locatelli, Richie Akiva, Lucas Castellani, Amanda Lepore, Evan Ross, Mickalene Thomas, Mia Moretti, Johnny Wujeck, Lil Buck and Alexandre de Betak.
While we’re on the topic of the club’s discerning entry policy, it’s worth noting that Silencio’s NYC location will remain as exclusive as ever, with global club members granted access to one-off experiences and networking.
