Dazed announces its new team and 2021 vision

With Ib Kamara appointed editor-in-chief and Lynette Nylander announced as executive editorial director, the full team will be outlined in the forthcoming May issue

Today, Dazed Media has announced its 2021 vision, strategy, and new team under the recently appointed editor-in-chief Ib Kamara and executive editorial director Lynette Nylander.

Described by Kamara as the “National Geographic of youth culture”, the new era of Dazed will platform new voices and talents from across the world. Kamara and Nylander will oversee the integration of Dazed’s print, online, social, and experiential wings, with a renewed emphasis on producing stories, series, campaigns, and content that are emotional.

“At a precarious moment in the lives of young people all over the world, Dazed’s vision is that we will connect every reader, follower and visitor no matter where they reside, to a global social community,” says Kamara.

“The future of youth rests in their hands – Dazed will be the lightning rod and the communal space – creating human connection where there is none, bringing momentum to the youth culture movement,” he explains.

“Dazed will use its rich history and a network built over 30 years to challenge and inspire, empowering youth through creative expression; encouraging imagination; exploration and rebellion, and platforming global points of views told from local perspectives.”

“I strongly believe the future of youth publishing being about looking outwardly and not inwardly, outsourcing stories to the communities and people who know them best,” says Nylander. “Our mission is to unite young people globally by telling stories from viewpoints from all over the world; to empower the future of young people by building communal spaces both within and around our output where knowledge and experience is shared freely.”

Among those joining the Dazed Magazine team is Bruce Usher, who has been appointed art director. Jack Mills has been promoted from print features editor to print editor.

Paris-based stylist and creative consultant Imruh Asha is fashion editor, while London-based Mischa Notcutt is casting director and London-based stylist Claudia Sinclair is fashion editor-at-large.

Felix Paradza is junior fashion editor-at-large, while Jacob K and Patti Wilson are joining as senior contributing fashion editors, and Akeem Smith and Raphael Hirsch as contributing fashion editors. British artist and Fashion East alumni Gareth Wrighton has been appointed creative consultant.

The last issue of Dazed, the 2021 to Infinity issue, with Indya Moore, the cast of Gossip Girl, Adut Akech, and GCDS on the spring covers, was the last issue involving Isabella Burley, Emma Wyman, Jamie Reid, and Claire Healy in their roles.

Mirko Pedone will continue in his current role as fashion coordinator, and Andra Amelia Buhai will continue her role as fashion assistant.

The full team, including further editors-at-large, will be announced in the May issue’s masthead.
