Ja Rule says he wants to throw the most iconic festival, seriously

Ja Rule, what is wrong with you? A man whose name is now eternally attached to one of the most botched events in history (Fyre Festival) has decided that this newfound infamy is the perfect business opportunity.

In a Groundhog Day interview with TMZ, the rapper has announced: “I have plans to create the iconic music festival,” as he called Fyre the most “iconic festival that never was”.

The 2017 event was recently the subject of two documentaries which chronicled the behind-the-scenes drama of the event and showed how the festival was falsely marketed through influencer social media accounts. People struggled for basic provisions like food, water, and shelter, and locals who worked on the festival were never paid.

Speaking to Dazed, Chris Smith who directed the Netflix doc, said: “What we found was emblematic of the times we’re in – it felt so relevant in terms of influencer culture, Instagram’s prevalence, people being obsessed with lifestyles they see represented on social media.”

However, Ja says that “in the midst of chaos is opportunity”. “I’m working on a lot of new things,” he added.

After the documentaries, he took to Twitter to position himself as one of the victims of the festival he co-founded. He wrote: “I too was hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hoodwinked, lead astray.” He told his followers that he lost “plenty” of his own money trying to put the festival on with McFarland, who is due to spend six years behind bars for being a “serial fraudster”.

“I never made or got paid one dollar from Fyre... But everyone else did,” he continued. “I had an amazing vision to create a festival like NO OTHER!!! I would NEVER SCAM or FRAUD anyone what sense does that make???”

Let’s hope his next business venture runs a little smoother than the last.
