- For this project, we are viewing a Curator as someone who devises a concept for an exhibition, and brings together artists and their works into a space.
- We will prioritise Curators who present a fleshed out concept.
- The successful applicant must select artists who create work that can ultimately be experienced physically “in real life” form.
- Examples of mediums that can be accommodated in the space: painting, collage, drawing & print, textiles, photography, digital art (that can be printed – however take printing costs into account), small sculptures, pottery, and crafts.
- The applicant confirms that they are over the age of 18.
- The applicant confirms that they have no prior or existing criminal convictions.
- The applicant confirms they have the right to work in the UK.
- The £2,000 budget will be paid to the successful applicant once the application process has closed and a Curator selected. This is intended to cover any costs incurred when organising the exhibition including (but not limited to): printing costs, transportation of works, materials or equipment outside those provided by The Gallery, and any other costs involved in organising / setting up the exhibition, such as the exhibition text vinyl
- Any additional exhibition costs incurred outside this £2,000 budget will not be covered
- The £1,000 Curator fee will be paid to the Curator on completion of the exhibition in April 2026
- To mark the start of the exhibition, Dazed and The Gallery will host an opening private view event, which will be paid for by Dazed and The Gallery, and publicised on Dazed channels.
- The Curator agrees that it is up to Dazed which drink sponsor is used for the opening event.
- Private View event costs (e.g. drinks sponsors, invites) will be covered by Dazed and The Gallery
- All RSVPs to the Private View must be submitted via the Dazed Club app, including the Curator’s guestlist and the participating artists.
- The Curator will need to be available for the install days (9-12 March) and also for the de-installation – no artwork or any exhibition materials can be left in the space at the end. A technician will be on hand to support during the installation process.
- The work of all artists will need to be available and on display for the full three week run of the exhibition.
- The selected Curator and selected artists’ consent to Dazed and The Gallery documenting the exhibition if needed, either through videography, photography, interviews, any content coverage etc.
- The Curator agrees to leave the exhibition space as clean as they found it and will be responsible for any damage caused exceeding £500.
- Dazed or Hackney Downs Studios cannot be held liable for any loss, theft or damage to the art works or any personal belongings of the Curator or artists. Any damages to the space exceeding £500 would have to be covered by the Curator (an itemised list with associated costs would need to be provided).
- The curator can include a maximum of seven artists in the exhibition.
- The selected Curator will be invited to a meeting at the Dazed office to discuss their concept with the Dazed team and go over all logistical details.
- The exhibition will run from 12 March to 2 April and will be open each day from 9 to 5, invigilated by Hackney Downs Studios.
- Curator agrees to only use the marketing assets provided by Dazed in any PR and Communications about the project.
- Selling works – The Gallery has a process in place for artwork sales, whereby if curators create one pagers with contact details and any info on pricing for the pieces if someone wants to buy one.
- Point of contact at The Gallery will be Annaluisa, their Community Manager
- Dazed holds the right to remove any artist from the exhibition whose behaviour breaks any of the terms & conditions or is deemed offensive or inappropriate.
