Watch: the trailer for Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is here

Featuring Bill Skarsgård as the immortal vampire craving the blood of Lily Rose-Depp, the film is slated for release later this year

Finally, vampires are back: the trailer for Nosferatu is here.

The upcoming feature film is written and directed by horror veteran Robert Eggers (The VVITCH, The Northman). A modern retelling of the 1922 German silent film of the same name, Nosferatu tells the haunting tale of vampire Count Orlok’s (here portrayed by Bill Skarsgård) obsession with a young woman (Lily Rose-Depp). Also appearing in the trailer are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin and Willem Dafoe.

The vampire myth itself was first popularised by Bram Stoker’s archetypal gothic novel Dracula and has seen various remixes in popular culture since, including Werner Herzog’s own take on Nosferatu in 1979. With a cinematic release slated for 25 December, alongside the tagline “He is coming”, Nosferatu is set to make Christmas suck in a good way for once.
