The upcoming Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark: A Sopranos Story may already have a sequel in the works.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s director Alan Taylor revealed that Sopranos creator David Chase hinted at a follow-up to the Tony Soprano origin story: “David said something that sounded like he was talking about (making more content). I said, ‘Wait wait, are you talking about a sequel?’ And he said, ‘Maybe.’”

Fans got a peek at what to expect from the prequel in June with the film’s first trailer. It shows a young Tony Soprano played by Michael Gandolfini (son of the late James Gandolfini, who played the mob boss in the OG series). It also offers a glimpse of Alessandro Nivola as Dickie Moltisanti, the uncle Soprano idolises, and Vera Farmiga, as his mother.
“Caught up in the changing times is the uncle (Tony) idolises, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities,” reads a synopsis, “and whose influence over his nephew will help make the impressionable teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we’ll later come to know: Tony Soprano.”
There are no concrete plans for the sequel to the prequel, but in the meantime, you can remind yourself of what to expect from The Many Saints of Newark: A Sopranos Story with the trailer below.
