RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is returning for a second season

Shantay, you stay

Following the surreal and campy success of the first UK edition of Drag Race, which has registered over 6.5 million hits on BBC iPlayer to date, RuPaul has announced the series has been commissioned for a second season.

“I want to thank the BBC and all our fans for their overwhelming support of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK,” said RuPaul. “This season’s queens proved that Britain’s got charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent - and I want to see more! Here’s to another season of love, laughter and light!”

The UK edition, which launched on BBC Three in October, has seen the queens play renditions of not one, but two ultra conservative political leaders on the ‘Snatch Game’ episode – Margaret Thatcher by Baga Chipz and Donald Trump by The Vivienne; act out a scene from “Downtown Draggy”; and perform the best impersonation of a girl group in television history, ever.

“The response to the current UK series has been nothing short of dragulous; our viewers have really taken the show and the amazing queens to their hearts,” said Kate Phillips, BBC controller for entertainment commissioning. “I’m delighted that Ru and the gang are going to shantay stay. Let the search for the next group of queens begin!”

Celebrity guests on the show so far include Maisie Williams, Andrew Garfield, Cheryl Cole, and Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall.

RuPaul is currently recruiting for the next season, so if you think you have what it takes to be UK’s next Drag Race Superstar, apply here.
