The Clueless reboot will focus on Dionne

After Cher ‘mysteriously disappears’

Because Hollywood has run out of ideas, there’s a new Clueless on the way. Heinously described as “Mean Girls meets Riverdale meets a Lizzo music video”, the forthcoming series will reportedly centre Dionne as the protagonist after Cher ‘mysteriously disappears’.

According to Deadline, the series will be a “baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latte and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when the high school queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong number two Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans”.

Thrust into the spotlight as “the new most popular girl in school”, the show will explore how Dionne deals with her newfound pressure, while also attempting to figure out what happened to her best friend. Think Twin Peaks meets Caroline Calloway’s Instagram. Maybe.

The original film is arguably one of the greatest coming of age movies ever made – iconic for its fashions, cast (how can you match Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Paul Rudd, and Donald Faison?) and authentic representation of its time, so the new series has big shoes to fill.

CBS TV Studios’ new Clueless – set in LA 2020 – will be written by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey, who both worked on Will & Grace, and executive produced by Corinne Brinkerhoff, Tiffany Grant, and Robert Lawrence, who was a producer on the original movie.

There’s no news on when the series will grace us with its presence – in the meantime, look back at our exploration of Hollywood’s unbearable obsession with reboots.
