Watch a mind-blowing high school production of Ridley Scott’s Alien

The facehugger scene is magnificent

A student production of Alien has been celebrated by the internet for a mammoth adaptation of Ridley Scott’s expansive space epic.

New Jersey’s North Bergen High School’s drama club staged the impressive play. Since parents and audience members posted videos and photos of the show online, people have been awestruck by the set design, costumes, and performances.

The student cast and crew created 15 original sets as well as four astronaut costumes and a Xenomorph outfit.

Art teacher and the play’s director Steven Defendini told Buzzfeed: “Our performance of Alien really shows you can do so much with so little, and as long as there is a passion there to do these things, they are possible.”

“We don’t have really any budget – we recycle everything, everything is repurposed and recycled 10 times over until we get the look we need,”

The original Alien film was released in 1979. Directed by celebrated filmmaker Ridley Scott, the sci-fi horror launched the career of Sigourney Weaver, who played fearless hero Ellen Ripley as she and her crew deal with horrifying, murderous creatures on an ill-fated space journey.

Clips of the performance show impressively staged battles between the spaceship crew and the Xenomorphs – one in particular depicts the iconic, stomach-turning facehugger scene.
