It’s been 16 years
Bill Murray and Sofia Coppola haven’t worked with each other since Lost in Translation was released 16 years ago. Now, the pair are reuniting for a film named On The Rocks, which will be produced by the same film company that brought us Moonlight and Hereditary.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film will follow Murray as a playboy father who is a bit of a tearaway, and Rashida Jones as the daughter seeking to rekindle their relationship. Together they explore New York city and begin an adventure.
It is to be one of the first in a long line of movies in a deal between the A24 studio and Apple since the tech company is set to launch a new streaming platform (great, can’t wait to steal a friend’s password for this). Apple is already working on projects with Jennifer Aniston, Steven Spielberg, Reese Witherspoon, and more.
As well as having more film and TV coming your way than you could ever have time to stream, you’re also about to get way more Murray than you’re accustomed to over the next couple of years.
Last year, he teamed up with his past collaborator Wes Anderson to voice Boss in the Isle of Dogs, and they’re already back at work filming another called The French Dispatch, starring the likes of Timothée Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan and Willem Dafoe.
He’ll also star in two movies about the undead – the sequel to Zombieland, and a zombie movie called The Dead Don’t Die with Jim Jarmusch featuring Chloë Sevigny, Tilda Swinton, Adam Driver, and Selena Gomez.
Is this some sort of reference to the fact that his acting career is eternal and the genius of Murray will live on? Maybe.
