Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell cry a lot in the Beautiful Boy trailer

A teary trailer in time for Oscars season

Timothée Chalamet is a beautiful boy playing a beautiful boy in the upcoming trailer for Beautiful Boy. The new clip shows him as an emotional wreck attempting to kick his addiction with the help and guidance of his father.

He plays Nic Sheff whose substance abuse causes a schism between him and his father David, played by Steve Carell who shouts in teary confusion. In the first full preview of the film the two battle to reconnect and heal. “When I tried it I felt lighter than I ever had, so… I just kept on doing it,” Nic says. To which his father replies: “This isn’t us! This isn’t who we are.”

The 22-year-old is being tipped for another Oscar nomination for his performance after the huge success of Call Me By Your Name. Beautiful Boy also sees Steve Carell return to another more sombre role after his Oscar nominated performance in Foxcatcher. They stand in stark contrast from the times when he played the virgin in The 40 Year Old Virgin, or paper salesman Michael Scott in the American version of The Office – both truly Oscar-worthy performances.
