Balenciaga’s SS22 show was a special episode of The Simpsons

Doh! etc.

Balenciaga continues to twist and subvert the format of a fashion show, this season sending its models down the red carpet in front of awaiting paps as they entered Paris's Théâtre du Châtelet ahead of an undisclosed screening.

As attendees including Cardi B, Offset, Elliott Page, Isabelle Huppert, and 90s supermodels Naomi Campbell and Amber Valletta made their way into the venue in full Balenciaga looks, guests clapped and cheered as they took their spots. Soon it became apparent what the screening was, as the lights dimmed and the strains of The Simpsons’ theme tune kicked in.

What followed was a special ten-minute episode of the cult cartoon, which saw Homer sourcing one of Demna Gvasalia’s green gowns for Marge’s birthday after he found her lusting after it in a glossy fashion mag.

Cut to the Georgian designer himself taking a private jet to Springfield to sort out its ‘style deprived’ residents with some hot Balenciaga garms, and Chief Wiggum, Patty and Selma, and Smithers – in a full red sequinned look – walking the Paris runway, and the assembled crowd watching going wild.

The collection itself was made up of Balenciaga classiques, including XXL puffers, pumped-up tailoring, huge shouldered gowns and coats, 90s dad-inspired denim jeans, and Clip-Art printed dresses.

After stepping out in a bunch of Schiaparelli looks earlier this week, Cardi shimmied into a coat emblazoned with trashy magazine covers and a couture beekeeper hat combo to take her turn on the red runway. With the crowd whispering “Is that her?”, the only thing that gave it away was Offset walking before her.

Page, meanwhile, took a new hardcore Croc-style shoe out for a test run, and even Anna Wintour got in on the action in a chintzy, bias-cut number.
