J.Lo and Rickey Thompson headline Coach’s Shanghai show

The iconic singer channelled Thelma & Louise for the second episode of Coach TV

The SS22(!) menswear shows might be looming – with things kicking off in London in just a couple of weeks – but Coach is pressing fast-forward and skipping ahead to AW22. Cut to creative director Stuart Vevers, who landed in Shanghai to drop his latest collection (Winter 2022) at the helm of the all-American house.

Picking up where the last technicolour, Megan Thee Stallion-starring episode of Coach TV left off (more on that here), the show opened with friend of the label and social media icon Rickey Thompson

Embodying Cindy Crawford circa her stint as the supermodel presenter of 90s MTV show House of Style, Thompson slipped into his international boots to do a bit of street style spotting, before changing into a chic lab coat (Margiela?) and taking us for a sneak peek at where the magic happens, inside the Coach factory.

This time around, the Coach presentation also incorporated a live runway show (remember those?), with guests seated around a vast auditorium in vintage cars.

A cast of local models in chunky shearling coats and cosy, bootleg cords, faux fur-lined gilets and turned-up indigo jeans, and Americana-tinged sweatshirts bearing big bolshy prints – plus a selection of cute, almost home-knitted beanie hats – made their way around the space. Meanwhile, more dressed-up looks saw 70s-style velvet maxis paired with skinny scarves, chunky ski jackets, and moonboots. It’s a high low balance, baby!

Later, they were joined by a series of skaters in full Coach uniforms, as part of what might have been the most fashion-y roller derby ever.

Check it out for yourself in the gallery above, and watch the show below.
