Dua Lipa wore the Valentino couture hat of dreams on SNL

Oh to be Dua Lipa’s enormous ethereal jellyfish hat floating gently in the breeze

This weekend (Saturday night, to be exact), former cast member Kristen Wiig returned to Saturday Night Live as host of the weekly sketch comedy show. Joining her was musical guest Dua Lipa and Dua Lipa’s enormous Valentino feather hat.

As well as taking part in a number of skits, during the show Lipa gave two live performances which both featured some major fashion moments. While on stage singing her new single “Levitating”, Lipa wore a billowing ivory floor-length gown from the Valentino Haute Couture 2020 collection. Accompanying the dress was some frosty Fabergé jewelry and an absolutely huge Phillip Treacy for Valentino couture hat. Made from the feathers of an ostrich, as she performed, with the help of a wind machine, Lipa’s oversized hat gently rippled and floated like a huge ethereal jellyfish.

To continue the wildlife theme, following the jellyfish-ostrich head piece, we were treated to a vintage Azzedine Alaïa leopard-print moment during the performance of “Don’t Stop Now”. The bustier-style top was paired with sheer black tights, heels, and not much else. Stylist Lorenzo Posocco was to thank for both ensembles.

As you can imagine, the internet was absolutely thrilled by the Valentino jellyfish hat. “My sexuality is dua lipa’s jellyfish hat,” tweeted one enthusiast, while another fan found in the look some lockdown inspo. “I am mesmerized by Dua Lipa’s hat on #SNL and shall henceforth wear one every day on every Zoom call.”
