Aaron Philip scores a Moschino campaign

It’s the model’s first major high fashion campaign – and a huge moment for the representation of disabled people in fashion

Aaron Philip, the first Black, transgender, and physically disabled model to be signed to a major agency (Elite Model Management New York), is now the face of Moschino’s AW20 campaign.

The model, who’s previously appeared in a beauty campaign for Sephora and Miley Cyrus’s music video for “Mother’s Daughter”, wrote on Instagram: “I’ve been too shell shocked to try and say anything prolific, but this is SUCH A BIG DEAL BEING A PHYSICALLY DISABLED PERSON/MODEL IN A CAMPAIGN LIKE THIS.”

She added: “I really am so so very happy & I hope the community is too! This is the start! More REAL space for us!”

Creative director Jeremy Scott’s black and white campaign features Philip in a wide pannier skirt à la Marie Antoinette (as seen in his February runway show), paired with towering platform lace-up boots, a leather jacket, and fingerless gloves. Of course, there’s typical Moschino-isms too, with Philip also wearing a grey hoodie that’s been elongated to accommodate her pompadour wig, naturally.

“My goal is normalising the presence of disabled people, women/femmes who are trans and gender nonconforming trans people so that we can simply work, exist and be authentically valued in the high fashion industry and the world itself as a whole,” she told Dazed just last year – this campaign proves she's truly achieving her goal.
