Claudia Schiffer turns curator, putting unseen pics of supermodels on show

Cut to the 90s icon, hauling herself into the attic, digging around a box marked ‘memories’

Fashion might be all about looking and moving forward at a breakneck speed, but there’s few among us who haven't dreamt of being transported back to the 90s while scrolling the countless Instagram accounts dedicated to the era of glamour, grunge, and iconic supermodels

Now, bringing the period into the spotlight IRL is none other than OG super Claudia Schiffer, who’s set to curate an exhibition of photographs, moving image, and music in Düsseldorf, where she was first discovered, in early 2021.

Taking place at the city’s Kunstpalast Düsseldorf museum, Fashion Photography From The 1990s – Curated by Claudia Schiffer will see images of the people and places pivotal to the era go on show, with works by Juergen Teller, Karl Lagerfeld, Corinne Day, Herb Ritts, and Ellen von Unwerth among those featured.

Elsewhere, Schiffer will dig into her own personal archive to offer a glimpse at unseen photos of afterparties and backstage areas – so essentially, get ready to spot Naomi, Kate, Linda, and Christy looking extremely fabulous, probably smoking the odd ciggie or necking a glass of champagne.

“It was an intense and amazing time that had not been seen before, when shoots lasted for days and fashion was front-page news for weeks,” Schiffer explains of the time, while the Kunstpalast’s director Felix Krämer adds the museum is ‘delighted’ to be hosting the exhibition. “With this show, Germany’s most successful model – whose career began in Düsseldorf – will reflect in a very personal way an era that set standards to this day.”

Fashion Photography From the 1990s curated by Claudia Schiffer runs March 4 – June 13, 2021 at Kunstpalast Düsseldorf. In the meantime, revisit some of Ellen von Unwerth’s iconic photography in the gallery above, and check out Claudia’s IG post below.
