What’s your favourite scary movie? That was the question posed by Jeremy Scott last night, as the king of camp fashion presented his latest Moschino collection, inspired by some of Hollywood’s biggest – and most terrifying – horror films.
Taking place at Los Angeles’ Universal Studios, guests including Frances Bean Cobain, Luka Sabbat, and legendary horror director Eli Roth took their places on a runway lined by picture-perfect houses with immaculately mown lawns, white picket fences, and manicured rose bushes.
As smoke poured into the set, and the show kicked off with a model who resembled Drew Barrymore in Scream running from house to house, screaming and banging on doors to the strains of John Carpenter’s Halloween soundtrack, it became clear all was not well on this seemingly wholly average suburban street.
Along with models wearing skeleton-print suits, vampire-esque capes, and prom-style dresses which had been slashed and covered in blood (with looks finished with pumpkin jack-o’-lantern handbags, witchy and bat-shaped hats, and killer masks), a familiar face also made her return to the Moschino runway for Pre-SS20: the one and only Violet Chachki.
Looking basically as snatched as it’s possible to be (duh!), the inimitable queen made her way down the runway looking like 2019’s answer to Morticia Addams in a tight black wiggle dress, her arms held out in front of her zombie-style. It was when she reached fellow Drag Race icon Aquaria’s spot on the sidelines that she got really into her role as a scream queen, by yelling and lunging at her unexpectedly (all of which was captured on Aquaria’s IG stories).
Consider us all slayed – Violet Chachki, Hollywood is calling your name.
