Samuel Ross releases debut A-COLD-WALL* women’s campaign

The designer enlisted two photographers – Ronan McKenzie and Ollie Webb – to give a more rounded view of the collection

After launching A-COLD-WALL* womenswear back in April, Samuel Ross has now debuted his second collection – entitled SILICA

“SILICA was formed of the idea of streamlining garments that confidently translate into well-formed relationships paring to A-COLD-WALL*s robust, technical outerwear,” Ross tells us about the newest collection that takes inspiration from artists like Rachel Whitehead and the late Zaha Hadid.

For the collection’s campaign, Ross enlisted photographer Ronan McKenzie to shoot the dark, moody images. “Ronan and I have spoken and met up in regards to forming a body of work, for around a year now,” the designer says. “There’s a connection here, artist to artist, its uncompromising – and complimentary.”

As the Ross wanted the campaign to have an intensity to it, the models pose in powerful, yoga-like stances to bring additional shapes to the images. In addition to the official campaign images, Ross also enlisted Ollie Webb to shoot BTS images to create another dimension to the campaign. “His photography carries an intensity to it, it pairs well to the ACW* core aesthetic,” says Ross.

Moving forward to hone the womenswear side of the label, Ross is enlisting his wife and female friends and colleagues to further understand the rationale behind womenswear. “Our women’s dialogue is now into its second season – the foundation is beginning to settle, base products have been finalised – extroverted, experimental outerwear will continue to evolve and mature.”
