X-girl for Chloë SevignyPhotography Monika Mogi

Chloë Sevigny has returned as the face of X-girl

As one of the cult 90s brand’s original faces, the iconic actress and it-girl has collaborated on a new collection

Back in the 90s, you weren’t cool if you weren’t wearing X-girl. With its logo t-shirts, A-line dresses and androgynous look, the brand established itself as the go-to for skater girls. Designed by Kim Gordon and stylist Daisy von Furth, the clothes were created with a strong DIY ethic, with preppy streetwear influences. Worn by the likes of Kathleen Hanna and Sofia Coppola, it is obvious why it gained such a cult following.

Chloë Sevigny too, was one of the label’s biggest fans. Not only did she walk for X-girl’s first fashion show, she also appeared in its 1995 short film, when she became the face of the brand. The brand was sold to a Japanese company in 1998, but has continued to create collections since then and even inspired MadeMe’s SS16 collection and have collaborated together since.

Now, X-girl is launching a revival collection entitled ‘Back to the 90s’ with the brand’s Instagram featuring pictures of Sevigny wearing an X-girl tee with throwback cropped blonde hair from the era. The collab includes t-shirts printed with a picture of Sevigny in front of a palm-filled LA backdrop. Elsewhere, the collection also includes a matching skirt and shirt look covered with photo booth pictures of the actress.

Launching today, there is no doubt that riot grrrls around the world will be raving about this (much-needed) throwback.
