Ottolinger shoots a summer campaign in the Swiss snow

The LVMH-nominated brand – founded by Swiss design duo Christa Bösch and Cosima Gadient – went back to its roots for SS18

In the lead up to Ottolinger’s fashion show in Paris next month, the design duo behind the label – Christa Bösch and Cosima Gadient – have just revealed a new SS18 campaign.

Despite being raised in Switzerland, the designers are now based in Berlin – but chose to return to their roots to shoot the images. Teaming up with fellow Swiss creatives – photographer Lukas Wassmann and stylist Ursina Gysi – they shot the campaign in a hunting area near Wassmann‘s hometown.

With a model sitting in a sun chair wearing an off-shoulder top or standing on a snow-covered hill in long shorts, you would think the collection was supposed to be shot in a sunnier place and not in minus degrees. “We were interested in the contrast between our collection of warm-weather clothes and a Swiss winter backdrop, just as the clothes themselves contrast with the raw nature,” the pair says.

The collection itself draws on the old traditions of Switzerland, but with a reworked and refreshed approach. “The coins are a remake of the Swiss coin called ‘Goldfreneli’, which you get for birthdays, weddings or even exams. It is something you collect and keep all your life,” the designers explain.

In addition to the campaign, the designers have just been announced as one of the semi-finalists for this year’s LVMH Prize. The winner will be revealed in June this year, but whether or not they take home the prize, their drive for continuously evolving the brand is not slowing down anytime soon.
