Anthon Raimund: 100 years of beauty

1940s The 1940s was all about class and sophistication. Women wore confident half-up half-down hairstyles and had flaming red lips and nails. Beauty guides also instructed women to outline outside their natural lips to enlarge the mouth, and Vaseline was added to the lips after the lipstick to give a sheen. Lipstick was used on cheeks and as a contour because of the shortage in supplies. Eyebrows were well-groomed and because women were working in ‘unfeminine’ environments such as munition factories make-up had to be on the go so compacts became popular.
