Anthon Raimund: 100 years of beauty

1950s Cat-like liner, or the winged eye effect, was the look of the 1950s. It was all about appearing beautiful, soft and feminine. Cream foundation was invented and it was the decade of the ‘mask effect’ where women would apply cream foundation then use loose powder to set their face. Following wartime austerity, again came prosperity and it was the era of the fashionable and glamorous homemaker. Women were baking apple pies and cleaning their houses in heels, with fully made-up faces. Hairstyles were looser and less work than the previous decade; short for the housewife and long for the Hollywood star.
