1930s
By the thirties, the beauty looks were becoming more refined, no doubt influenced by Hollywood glamour and the new range of full-colour fashion magazines. It was also the decade of The Great Depression so having less money to spend saw a rise in practicality. The look was much lighter than the vampy twenties. Hair was still chin-length but gone were the dramatic smoky eyes of the silent movie stars, and a palette of softer colours arrived. A standout feature is pencil-thin eyebrows, and lips were painted into a rosebud pout with typically maroon, dark red or berry tones.
