The roaring twenties was the decade of decadence, with prosperity, illegal boozing and underground clubs – very moi. It was the period of flappers; heavy eye make-up, rouge on the apples of the cheeks and lipstick painted into an exaggerated cupid’s bow. The mentality was off with the old, and so long hair was chopped into bob hairstyles, symbolic of women’s new-found freedom, rights and opportunities.
