Alongside these references, Liang draws on a diverse range of influences, from the classic Japanese animation Kiki’s Delivery Service, which she recently watched with her infant daughter, to the aprons worn by her mother and grandmother during her childhood. In the words of the show notes, the result is an “interplay of beauty and reverie, of beauty and tragedy, of utility and fantasy”.
