But although Taubensee and DiCaprio were shifting their lens, that didn’t mean the tongue-in-cheek subversion of previous collections wasn’t there. A ‘V’ monogram that looked suspiciously like the Valentino logo adorned handbags and lanyards, while the gold chain print on the closing looks was certainly a send-up of Versace’s Barocco print. The pair have of course spoofed other brands before, sending a ‘Comme des Fuckdown’ cap down the runway for SS24, and a giant ‘Vaquera & Co’ faux-Tiffany bag for AW17. It seems that, though they’re going back to basics, Vaquera’s collections will always have a glint in their eye.
