Before the show, the designer told Dazed his inspiration for the collection was “everyday people on the street” and “the people who work the jobs that make this country run.” And, with América, Chavarria continues to redefine new American dressing and reclaim the US flag for immigrants. “I would like to see everybody wearing this collection,” he says. “I am the new Chicano Ralph Lauren, and my clothes are for everybody.” After the show, Chavarria’s team waited to hand out small square pieces of paper to attendees. On them were only three words: “Willy says vote”.
