As guests slowly milled into the pitch black nave of St. Michael’s Church in Shoreditch, faceless ushers appeared with torches to guide them to their seats. “A world built by the hands of men is destined for destruction by those very hands,” read the notes placed on chairs, welcoming us all to the Dilara Findikoglu show. The collection, Femme Vortex, promised to “transcend the parochial strictures of conventional masculinity” by crafting a tender and sumptuous world created “in the image of the divine feminine” – and what better place to transcend the parochial than a disused, crumbling old church?
