But rather than a reference plucked out of thin air, Jones has a deep-rooted connection to the genre. The designer’s late uncle Colin Jones was a British Royal Ballet dancer, and showgoers were greeted by a book containing images of Nureyev, which were shot by Colin (he later became a photojournalist). The collection that followed was as elegant as the men that inspired it. Razor-sharp tailoring and wide-leg school shorts introduced carefree youthfulness; sleeveless leather smocks were followed by dust coats with arms that grasped toward the floor.
