Book nerds (bad) will probably baulk at the idea of a fashion show (good) being based on the work of TS Eliot, with Jones drawing parallels between the history of Dior and the AQA syllabus. The collection travelled through the death of Christian Dior to the appointment of Yves Saint Laurent, embedding 3D Lily of The Valley embellishments – a favourite of Monsieur Dior and all those over the age of 60 – onto cream jumpers and blazers, before showcasing the leopard prints and fisherman workwear beloved of Saint Laurent. Water – and all its life-giving properties – was a recurring motif this season, with fluid tailoring in pale neutrals tumbling in aqueous drapes, bolshy sea waders, and a couple of transparent tops and trails that looked as though they’d been foamed up by the tide.
