The headwear was just as dramatic: there were masks which evoke both Olympic fencing gear and 1980s slasher films; extravagantly tall bearskin hats which looked like something a soldier would wear in a Tolstoy novel if they got really into The Cure and became a gothed-up shorty; and elegant white fascinators, draped across angular white helmets which have an almost retrofuturist, Looney Tunes feel.
