The two legendary designers first met in 1998, at the opening party of Emporio Armani’s first Paris store. “He looked so happy that I visited,” Yamamoto recalled backstage yesterday, holding Armani’s original show invite. “From that moment, we became friends.” There are designers who love fashion – they all do to some extent, they’d have to to put up with its gruelling schedule – but then there are designers who love clothes and their makers so deeply that they’d be willing to dedicate their own collection to their peers. Guess which category Yohji falls into.
