“It was all inspired by my local community,” Asker told us backstage. “In Yemen, we all had shops, and then when my family came to the UK we all had corner shops – so [the presentation] is about collaborating with local businesses and charities to try and recreate the selflessness of my community.” Adeni shahi tea, Palestine Cola and handmade jewellery from those local businesses were laid out on stalls in the space, while models posed on Persian carpets in Asker’s new collection.
